6 Simple Steps to Understand Uncertainty

Understanding the concept of uncertainty and its natural implications is one of the main pillars of futurist thought. In fact, without understanding uncertainty every effort in thinking about the future will end in vain. Up to now numerous articles and books have been written on uncertainty and its different aspects. Sometimes, reading these works leads to more complication of the issue for readers (especially novices) in capturing main points and ideas that are necessary for understanding uncertainty. Through following 6 simple steps you will got the main topics in this regard.

Bravo Ali, for distilling uncertainty down to such an eloquent degree! I'm finding great value in your efforts and believe others would wholeheartedly agree given the proper exposure opportunity. Indeed, if the future is uncertain than so must the present because that is where life is lived. Following this, existence as a whole is also uncertain and "time," "past," "present, and "future" are but constructs that can give us quasi-assurance in a sea of perpetual change. The downside however is a tendency to confuse symbols with reality, which may be irrelevant relativity. Therefore, there is much to be gained in the "wisdom of insecurity" which calls into question our relation to materiality. With our accelerating technologies feeding back upon our unsure psychologies, it's no wonder the zeitgeist has sparked a movement to come to terms with how the world really works, doing so by going Zen, embracing paradox, and reclaiming ironic solutions. This is the new contrarian cool. The upside of the irrational. The unexpected benefits of defying logic. The freedom in flying our freak flags. This trend has the resonance to provide us the leverage to navigate more steadily the never-ending flux. As you said, "we must become skilled at sailing into the unknown." I suspect this sailing entails a realization of the limitations of our abilities to truly will anything. It implies a different kind of hand on the wheel. It requires skillful means that both drives and is driven. What happens will not always be our decision. What we do is also a doing of our environment. The two are mutually intertwined and imply each other the same way as one side of a wheel is going down as the other is going up. All of this dances on the fragile line between the now and the then, a present and a future so slippery it's hard to comprehend. :-) Do you find this valuable?

Dear Mark,
Thanks for your nice comment. I'm so happy that I could raise new thoughts in your mind concerning the Uncertainty. The amazing story of Uncertainty goes on even to last moment of our life.
Best wishes, Alireza
